Community Feedback

2024 Bond Planning Update
The District has an opportunity in November 2024 to pass a bond measure that is not expected to increase the current tax rate because payments for existing bonds will be decreasing. This unique circumstance has motivated the District to explore strategies to preserve and improve District facilities without an increase in property taxes.

A citizen-led Community Bond Task Force of parents, staff, and community members have been working to provide input on the District’s facilities needs and define the priorities of a potential bond measure. As part of their work to create a comprehensive package to present to the Redmond School District Board of Directors, a recent community poll was conducted to gather community input. Those results were shared at our scheduled board meeting this week and can be viewed in full on the 3-20-24 Board Meeting Recording from 00:33:24 - 1:13:00.

This polling feedback is the first of many efforts the district will make to gather community input about the bond measure. We are currently working on scheduling listening sessions with our staff and open community sessions. The dates and times for community sessions will be published on our website as well as our social media accounts. We are hopeful that our media partners will help get that information out to the community as well.

The feedback we gather from staff and community members will be presented to a community bond planning team, who will ultimately put together a bond measure package and present that to our Board of Directors who will vote to determine if the measure is placed on the November 2024 ballot. The presentation of the bond package to the school board is scheduled for June 2024 and the board vote is scheduled for July 2024.

We are very interested in our community’s feedback on this important issue and have created this 2024 Bond Planning FAQ Google Form to accept questions that will be posted on a FAQ page at https://redmondschools.org/2024-bond-planning/. Thank you for your help in planning for the future of Redmond students.

Thriving Students

SMILE Club

Students in an after school program called Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences (SMILE) have been participating in some interesting lessons and events lately. SMILE students learn and participate in science and math lessons and activities along with other students across Oregon. SMILE is a precollege program hosted by Oregon State University (OSU) which engages 4-12 grade students statewide in science, math and engineering year round and provides professional development to a community of teachers.

Redmond teachers Hannah Russell and Lilli Worona have been leading students at Tom McCall Elementary and Elton Gregory Middle School through lessons which they receive from OSU about topics such as climate change, weather inversions, and creating data charts. Middle school students recently attended the state SMILE Challenge Day at Western Oregon University and Oregon State University and elementary students recently attended an evening field trip to Lonza's Science Night in Tumalo.

New Panther Football Head Coach Announced!

Kyle Lavender
"Coach Lavender has been a great asset to Redmond Panther Football as a defensive coordinator for the past three years and he will be an even greater asset as our new head coach!  He is well respected by the players, the assistant coaches, and he has been exceptional to work with to this point," said Jesse Eveland, Redmond High School Athletic Director. "I know that he will continue leading a dominant defense as the defensive coordinator while also taking on the head coach role. With the talent that we have coming back this season, the expectation is that this isn't a rebuilding year for our football program and a new head coach. The expectation is that Coach Lavender leads the Panthers into the playoffs in year one and I have complete faith that he can do that!"

Coach Lav is a graduate of Lake Oswego High School in 2007 where he played for legendary Head Football Coach Steve Coury. Many of Coach Lav’s coaching philosophies derive from the teachings of Coury and the time he spent as a Laker where he was a 2 sport athlete playing Football and Basketball. Kyle Continued his football career at Western Oregon University playing Tight End for the Wolves from 2007-2012.
